Comedy hypnotist Dan Lornitis takes stage Aug. 21

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Energy, hypnosis and the kind of hilarity that finds you still laughing days later are coming to Southern Illinois University Carbondale as comedic hypnotist Dan Lornitis takes the stage.

The Student Programming Council (SPC) Comedy Committee presents comedy hypnotist Dan Lornitis at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21, in Ballroom D of the Student Center. The show is free for SIUC students with valid student identification cards.

With more than 3,000 live performances to his credit, Lornitis has performed at the acclaimed comedy club Funny Bone, onboard Carnival Cruise Line ships and as opening act for comedic stars including “Weird Al” Yankovic, Phyllis Diller and Louie Anderson.

Lornitus will orchestrate the show at SIUC with the help of volunteers from the audience who, with a little subconscious mind interaction, step into in a hypnotic state and become stars for the evening. Everything is good-natured and the volunteers won’t do anything they’ll regret or find too embarrassing. Each show is unique but you’re likely to see a performer doing something like performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on a stuffed bunny rabbit or conversing with the president of the United States on a secret shoe phone.

The show is part of the new Saluki Startup lineup, welcoming new students to the University.
