by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Non-stop fun, entertainment, games and prizes will greet Southern Illinois University Carbondale students at Dawgs Nite Out.

Designed to welcome new students to campus in conjunction with Saluki Startup 2010 weekend, Dawgs Nite Out is from 8 p.m. to midnight on Friday, Aug. 20, at the Student Center. All SIUC students are welcome and virtually everything is free to students with a valid University identification card.

Visit the International Lounge and snap your picture at the photo booth or get your caricature drawn. You can also “Make Ur Own Street Signs” and “Make Ur Own Magazine Covers.” You could even become a television star of sorts since SPC-TV, the student-run University Housing cable station, will be having “Screen Tests” at the International Lounge during Dawgs Nite Out.

Get in on the video game fun at the Hall of Fame where you can compete in Wii, Xbox 360 and Playstation action. There’s exciting Laser Tag in Ballroom D.

Or, visit the Roman Room to make personalized sandals at “Flip Flop Fun.” You can also cast your hands in wax and enjoy two sessions of live music. Josh Cramoy will perform original rock and cover songs there 8:30-9:15 p.m. and 10-10:45 p.m.

Cash prizes totaling $1,200 are up for grabs at the “Cash Attack Game Show” set for 9-10:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Capping off the evening is the “Late Nite Breakfast Bar” with freshly made pancakes and sausage links served in the Roman Room fro 10:30 p.m. to midnight.

Door prize drawings will occur throughout the event at the first-floor crossroads. In addition to the many free events that evening, the Bowling and Billiards Center will offer special pricing all evening long. The Student Center’s retail eateries will have food specials too.

Primary sponsors for Dawgs Nite Out include New Student Programs, Residence Hall Association, Saluki First Year, Student Center, Student Programming Council, University Housing, University Programming and Chartwells Student Center Dining.
