CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Jacob Allen Junghanel of Bloomington is a recent recipient of the Leadership Team Member of the Month award from Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Recreational Sports and Services.

Junghanel came to work for RSS about two years ago as a graduate assistant in aquatics. He worked with payroll and organizing the youth swimming lessons program. Junghanel is a May graduate of SIUC with a master’s in recreation management. The son of Janice Hendren and Allen Junghanel, Jacob holds a Bachelor of Science degree in recreation management.

“Jake has been a valuable member of the aquatics team. Since joining our staff last summer, he has excelled in his role as a graduate assistant. He is coordinator for youth swimming lessons and special events. He is a valuable member of our aquatics team and we will miss him as he graduates,” said Jeff Goelz, assistant director of aquatics and base camp for Recreational Sports and Services.

Junghanel said he wants to continue working in aquatics management. He will do so in a new job with a St. Louis area pool management company. His career plans include obtaining a position as an assistant director of a city park and recreation department or a campus recreation unit.

RSS presents the monthly Leadership Team award to a member of their team, which includes full-time staff, graduate assistants and student employees. Full-time staff members choose the winner from among the nominees. Junghanel won the February recognition for demonstrating extraordinary leadership and teamwork skills.
