Annual Health and Nutrition Fair set for March 24

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- In celebration of March as National Nutrition Month, Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s University Housing is sponsoring its Ninth Annual Health and Nutrition Fair March 24.

The event is free and everyone is welcome. It will be from 4 to 6 p.m. in the lower level of Grinnell Hall. Quite appropriately, there’s an Olympic theme for the fair this year. The slogan, in recognition of the health benefits of eating grains, is “Go for the Grains!” The first 400 people actively participating will get a free “Go for the Grains!” T-shirt.

The fair will feature an assortment of fun activities and games along with exercise classes and whole grain dishes. You can win prizes and pick up cool freebies there too. University and community exhibitors will offer all sorts of helpful health and nutrition information illustrating how you can feel and perform your best every day.

“Don’t miss your chance to be a part of this University and community-wide effort to be healthy, perform optimally and ‘Go for the Grains!’ After all, good health is not a spectator sport,” said Danielle Wleklinski, nutrition counselor/graduate assistant for residence hall dining.
