Free legal education program set for April 16

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University School of Law is co-sponsoring a free continuing legal education program next month.

The law school, along with the bar associations from Jackson and Williamson counties, is providing the joint conference at the Hiram H. Lesar Law Building on Friday, April 16. The program runs from 8:50 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., and participants may attend the morning or afternoon sessions, or the full-day program.

Registration begins at 8 a.m., and organizers ask that participants arrive early to receive MCLE, or mandatory continuing legal education credit. The conference provides 6.0 total MCLE hours, including 2.0 professionalism credit hours applied for. The morning and afternoon session each is 3.0 MCLE, including 1.0 professionalism credit hour applied for.

  • 10:30 to 10:45 a.m. -- Break.
  • 10:45 to 11:15 a.m. -- Discussion of Illinois Elder Abuse and Neglect Program, Lee Beneze, legal services developer, Illinois Department on Aging.
  • 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. -- Practical and Ethical Issues in Family Law Mediation, Dispute Resolution Institute, Carbondale.
  • 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. -- Lunch.
  • 1 p.m. – Registration for afternoon session.
  • 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. -- “Who’s Your Client?” Issues Relating to Client Capacity, Kristi Ventri, attorney, Belleville.
