Technology expo will highlight SIU innovations

by Tim Crosby

CARBONDALE, Ill -- An upcoming technology conference will highlight opportunities for commercializing University-wide advances created by researchers across the Southern Illinois University system.

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will play host to the Technology and Innovation Expo from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 30 at Morris University Center. The event will bring researchers and inventors, business people, entrepreneurs and others together for a day of information and networking that organizers hope will lead to additional licensing of SIU technologies.

“American universities have carried much of the responsibility for technology transfer from the laboratory to the commercialization of ideas and inventions,” said SIU President Glenn Poshard. “Our University is proud to have played a major role in this endeavor over many years. The SIU Technology and Innovation Expo allows our University to display our efforts in this process.”

The day’s events include presentations by faculty inventors from SIU’s various campuses, including Carbondale, Edwardsville and the School of Medicine. Researchers will discuss advances in drugs, biofuels and other technology. Panel discussions and speakers also are on the agenda, as well as exhibits and research posters.

Registration is required, with tickets costing $25. To register, go to http://techtransfer.siuc.edu/tie/s10/ or call 618/650-2166.

SIUC Technology Transfer is co-organizing the event, along with the SIU School of Medicine, SIUE Graduate School, SIUE Southwestern Entrepreneurship Center and SIUE University Park. Sponsors include Ameren Economic Development and Husch Blackwell Sanders LLP.
