Flags lowered to honor war casualty

by Tom Woolf

Under a proclamation signed by Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn, the United States flag and the Illinois flag are to be at half-staff at all State of Illinois facilities in honor of a U.S. Army soldier killed earlier this month while serving in the war in Afghanistan.

Flags are to be flown at half-staff beginning Sunday, Jan. 31, until sunset, Tuesday, Feb. 2. in honor of U.S. Army Spc. Kyle J. Wright.

Reports indicate that Wright, 22, of Romeoville, died Jan. 13 from injuries received when the vehicle he was riding in hit an improvised explosive device in Kandahar province.

Reports say Wright, a 2006 graduate of Romeoville High School, joined the U.S. Army that year.  He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment, 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, out of Fort Lewis, Wash.
