Rep. Hoffman to announce release
of “Hope from the Heartland”

Book highlights potential for job creation, economic growth in green energy economy

CARBONDALE, Ill. — State Representative Jay Hoffman (D-Collinsville) along with Southern Illinois University President Glenn Poshard, Dr. John S. Mead, Director of the Coal Research Center at SIUC, and Mr. John Thompson, Director of the Coal Transition Program and Clean Air Task Force will announce the release of Hoffman’s new book, “Hope from the Heartland,” Thursday in Carbondale. Representative Hoffman, who represents Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in the state legislature, will introduce his book, “Hope from the Heartland,” as it outlines Hoffman’s plan for using the region’s natural resources and technological know-how to lead the nation toward energy security while creating good paying jobs and stimulating economic growth. According to Dr. Mead, “Hope for the Heartland brings attention to energy debates that may pave the way for socially responsible energy for our children’s children.”

All proceeds from “Hope from the Heartland” will be donated to the Lewis and Clark Community College Foundation for the support of scholarships, an array of environmental and sustainable-energy programs including the National Great Rivers Research and Education Center in Alton, Illinois.
