CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Cary Bryant and Callissa Harris are the December 2009 recipients of the senior Book Awards from Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Alpha Lambda Delta national honor society.

Harris, from Marion and Bryant, of Centralia, both graduated this month from the University. Harris, an April 2007 ALD inductee, graduated with a bachelor’ degree in English while Bryant, an April 2008 inductee, earned her bachelor’s in professional media and media management.

Alpha Lambda Delta awards the honor to the members graduating with the highest grade point average. Bryant and Harris tied for that honor with each having a 4.0 GPA.

Both women received Barnes and Noble gift certificates and complimentary honor cords to wear during commencement exercises.

The SIUC chapter of ALD is one of 250 groups of the elite academic honors organization across the country. Students are eligible for membership if they are full-time first-year students with a 3.5 or higher GPA, attending a four-year university or college. The University’s chapter, a registered student organization, dates to 1956.
