Annual fall iron pour set for this weekend

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Students in the School of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University Carbondale plan to have fun with molten metal this weekend, and the public is welcome to join them.

Media Advisory

This event provides some good visuals during the metal pouring and preparation. Students and faculty are on hand for interview possibilities. Photographers, camera crews and reporters are welcome to attend and document the iron pour.

The annual fall iron pour begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, at The Foundry, located at the corner of Pleasant Hill and Reservoir roads.

Scratch blocks are available for $5. A scratch block is a small, wood-framed box that artists and even non-artists can use to create a design for a metal plate.

A grill is on site for those who would like to join the group for lunch. Alcohol is prohibited.
