Improvisation Series coming to Cobden

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Ronald Coulter, percussion lecturer in Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s School of Music, presents an off-campus performance from the Southern Illinois Improvisation Series (SiiS) to kick off the new academic year in spontaneous style.

The performance begins at 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, at the Yellow Moon Café in Cobden. Coulter described the event as including “duende entendre, a spoken word, percussion, electronics, and bass duo.” What does all that mean? Attend the performance to discover for yourself.

The SiiS is a series of improvisational musical performances organized, if organized is the right word for something based on spontaneity, by Coulter. Past performances included an amplified cactus, silent music, and stair railings set to music.
