Course to focus on investing, retirement planning

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Did the financial crisis take you by surprise or change your retirement plans? Do you think you’re on track with your investments and know what to do during the ongoing recession and financial turmoil?

“Basics of Investing and Retirement Planning,” a fall course from the Division of Continuing Education at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, is for those who want to learn more about the fundamentals of investing and retirement planning to provide a solid foundation for future financial decision-making. The course begins with investment basics and addresses diversification and asset allocation, portfolios, risk mitigation, asset allocation, IRAs and qualified plans and much more.

Morning sessions are set for 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 12 and Oct. 17. Evening sessions are 6-9 p.m. Sept. 29 and Nov. 5. Each class session is in Room 1018 in the SIUC Communications Building. Registration is $25 per session and includes applicable instructional materials.
