CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Mary Beth Borre and JaNile Rutherford are the newest winners of the Student Employee of the Month honors for Recreational Sports and Services at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. The two earned the recognition for March.

Borre, of Lombard, is the daughter of Charlotte Borre and John Borre. She’s a junior majoring in paralegal studies with a political science minor.

Employed at RSS for a year, Borre is a fitness instructor. After completing her undergraduate degree in May 2010, Borre plans to work as a paralegal in a law firm.

“Beth is a reliable employee who is always willing to try new teaching styles to help our department,” said Lynn Thompson-Cundiff, assistant director of fitness and Mary Beth’s supervisor at RSS. “She spends extra time on her own to improve her classes. She works in multiple areas. She’s organized and always looking for jobs to help out.”

Rutherford, of Peoria, is the daughter of Jessica Shorty. An RSS employee since summer 2008, she is an accounting major. She currently works in the business office, in customer and employee service and at the reception desk.

Rutherford plans to graduate in December 2009 and attend graduate school to earn a master’s in accountancy and become a CPA. Her goal is a career as a forensic accountant and she would like to own a beauty salon.

“JaNile has worked for the Student Recreation Center for some time and in several different areas. Having served in different positions she has a broader understanding of the total operation of the center. She has an excellent work ethic. Her work is accurate and of the highest quality,” said her supervisor, Laurie Maggos, business manager for RSS.

“JaNile communicates in an efficient and effective manner and is always pleasant to work with. She is eager to learn new things, always open to new ideas and is a pleasure to have on our staff,” Maggos added.

The RSS Employee of the Month award recognizes student employees for outstanding effort and service.
