Fund established to help SIUC employee, family

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Friends and co-workers of a Southern Illinois University Carbondale employee whose son died following a traffic accident in Carbondale on Tuesday have established a fund to help the family.

Friends and co-workers of David “Tony” Davis at University Housing established the Mathew Gerald Davis Memorial Fund at the SIU Credit Union.

“We are grieving for Tony and his family,” said Crystal K. Bouhl, coordinator of marketing and public information at University Housing. “This is such a terrible tragedy. Many people are calling and asking what they can do to help. We are keeping Tony and his family in our thoughts and prayers. We wish we could do more.”

Mathew Gerald Davis, age 4, died Wednesday afternoon from injuries suffered in the three-vehicle crash. Arrangements are pending.

Tony Davis and his daughter, age 7, remain hospitalized in St. Louis with major injuries. Davis is a seven-year employee of University Housing. He has been dish room supervisor in Lentz Hall since 2005.

You can contribute to the Mathew Gerald Davis Memorial Fund by mailing or dropping off donations in the fund’s name to any SIU Credit Union branch.
