Civil Service Council plans annual flea market

by Pete Rosenbery

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Warm weather means yard sales, and the Southern Illinois University Carbondale Civil Service Council’s annual flea market is set for next month.

The flea market gives shoppers a chance to find those hard-to-find and “just right” items, along with collectibles, that every shopper craves.

The flea market is set for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 25, in the SIU Arena parking lot adjacent to the round parking lot. There is no parking in the circular lot without prior consent.

Proceeds go to the Civil Service Education Assistance Fund. There are no refunds.

The cost to sellers for a single space (18 feet wide by 18 feet deep) is $25. The cost for a double space (36 feet wide by 18 feet deep) is $35. Payment is due by 4 p.m., April 22. Sellers renting space the day of the sale will pay an additional $5.

Regulations prohibit the sale of food, alcohol, firearms, ammunition and hazardous materials. Also prohibited is amplification of any type, including microphones.

The rain date is April 26. The rain date is only if hazardous weather conditions, such as thunderstorms and lightning, exist on April 25, and prevent setup.
