Student group BAR Corp to present shows

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Bureau of Artistic Resources Corporation – perhaps better known from intermittent local print ads as BAR Corp – brings a performance bazaar to Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Marian Kleinau Theater Feb. 12-14.

“BAR Corporation Presents…” features the collective work of local performance artists in an exploration of collaboration, intimacy and bureaucracy, said Charles Parrott, director of publicity for the Kleinau Theater. He said the performances show evidence of such movements as Fluxus, Dadaism, Conceptualism and Surrealism. Those in the audience can expect poetry, monologue, multi-media and improvisation, all of it “tied together by an aesthetic of business and bureaucracy.”

Students in the SIUC Department of Speech Communication founded BAR Corp. in spring 2007. The group’s activities to date include performance art events and workshops, including summer workshops featuring performance artist Violet Juno.

The performances begin at 8 p.m. each night, with doors opening at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 for general admission and $5 for SIUC students. Tickets are available at the door, or call the box office at 618/453-5618 to reserve tickets in advance.
