SIUC to host open house on Feb. 16

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Online registration is open for the first Southern Illinois University Carbondale undergraduate open house of the calendar year.

The Undergraduate Admissions open house is Feb. 16 at the Student Recreation Center. Online registration ends at noon on Feb. 13. However, registration is accepted on-site. Check-in begins at 7:45 a.m., with activities beginning for most at about 9 a.m. Those who like to get an early start may opt for early bird campus tours, which begin at 8:15 a.m.

Students who attend SIUC open houses may check their admission status, get help filling out financial aid forms, learn about in-state tuition available beginning in fall 2009 for those in neighboring states Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee, talk to admissions counselors and visit with representatives from their majors.

The open house is a way for students to get a feel for the Southern experience, with a sample lecture from the Core Curriculum, housing tours and lunch in Trueblood or Lentz dining hall.

This open house also features the session Who Wants to be a Saluki? “game show” for those ready to learn about specifics of Southern life, and the “What’s the SI without U” session for those who are still early in the college-choosing process.

Students and their families can pre-register for this or future open houses online at www.admissions.siu.edu or by calling 618/536-4405.
