Winners named in pennant coloring contest

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Friends of Southern Illinois University Carbondale submitted thousands of votes to pick the winners of the www.iheartsiu.com pennant-coloring contest.

Students at elementary schools in Jackson and Williamson counties participated in the contest, vying to beat out their classmates for Saluki women’s basketball tickets at the classroom and grade level per school. The Web site votes helped determine grade level winners per county. Each winner receives a classroom pizza party and other prizes.

The www.iheartsiu.com Web site is for members of the Southern Illinois University Carbondale community, including current, past and potential Salukis and Saluki fans.

These are the grade-level winners by county:

Jackson County

Kindergarten: Torrey Taylor, St. Andrews School, Mrs. Koberstein’s class

First grade: Olivia Zambetta, Giant City School, Mrs. Williams’ class

Second grade: Daylen Flynn, St. Andrews School, Mrs. Thompson’s class

Third grade: Connor Doerr, Vergennes Elementary School, Ms. Darnell’s class

Williamson County

Kindergarten: Megan Beach, Tri-C Elementary School, Mrs. Mason’s class

First grade: Olivia Cripps, Tri-C Elementary School, Mrs. Owens’ class

Second grade: Sarah Schumacher, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, Mrs. Russell’s class

Third grade: Autumn Morgan, Herrin Elementary School, Ms. Karnes’ class
