Spring RSO Fair set for Jan. 15 at Student Center

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- In between hitting the books and going to classes again, what’s happening for students at Southern Illinois University Carbondale? In a word -- plenty! From 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, you can learn about options galore at the Spring RSO Fair in the J.W. Corker Lounge of the Student Center.

“Students will have the opportunity to find more than 400 ways to get involved on campus and in the community,” said Amanda R. Phillips, coordinator of Student Development-Leadership and Involvement Programs.

The University is home to scores of Registered Student Organizations. They run the gamut from the Accounting Society and the Aerospace Club to the Moonbuggy Club and the Zoology Club, more than 400 organizations in all. The RSO Fair is the chance to visit information booths or tables set up by many of the RSOs and see what they’re all about. The fair will also offer contact information for all campus organizations not specifically represented there.

In addition, about 20 community organizations will be on hand, giving details about how students can get involved with such service organizations as the American Cancer Society and Beautify Southern Illinois. Saluki volunteers are a valuable asset for a number of area groups, giving thousands of hours annually helping others.
