Dance company presents fall performance

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois Dance Company (SIDC) of Southern Illinois University Carbondale presents “In Concert,” its annual fall performance this week.

An evening performance is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, and a matinee is at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15. Both performances are in Furr Auditorium in Pulliam Hall.

Donna Wilson, associate professor of kinesiology, directs “In Concert.” The performance showcases various styles of dance, including modern, jazz, hip-hop and ballet with choreography by faculty and students. SIDC also welcomes dancers with Susan Barnes Dance Studio in Carbondale as guest performers with a modern dance.

“In Concert” also features a faculty choreography selection. This year, Wilson revives a 1991 work called “Domestications.” The award-winning modern dance for four performers interprets common cleaning and household tasks.

Wilson said the annual fall performance displays the work of faculty, student and community dance artists.

Tickets are $8 for general admission, $5 for students and senior citizens and $4 for children under the age of 15. Tickets are available at the door. The performance is rated PG.
