School of Music to present Halloween Pops

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The School of Music at Southern Illinois University Carbondale scares up a good time again this Halloween with a presentation of Halloween Pops.

The evening concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 31 at Shryock Auditorium. The highlight performance is Rossini’s William Tell Overture, performed by the Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra. The most famous part of the Overture is, of course, the finale, which may be better known as the Lone Ranger’s theme. The composition is in four parts -- and some of the other sections, while perhaps not as famous, may still be familiar to the audience.

The SIUC Wind Ensemble, SIUC Concert Choir and the Studio Jazz Orchestra join the symphony in this full program of music.

Costumes are welcome at this family friendly event.

Tickets are $20 for general admission, $6 for students of all ages. Buy tickets in advance online at www.siuc.edu/shryock or at the SIU Arena or Student Center ticket offices. Tickets are also available the day of the performance at the Shryock Auditorium. This is a U-card approved event.

The School of Music presents a matinee performance of Halloween Pops at 1 p.m. on Oct. 31 in Shryock Auditorium. This performance is for students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The Carbondale Morning Etude Club sponsors the performance. Admission is $2.
