Bill Bonan II named to SIU Board of Trustees

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Bill Bonan II, the Southern Illinois Community Bank President for the Southern Region of Peoples National Bank, N.A., has been appointed by Gov. Rod Blagojevich to serve on the Southern Illinois University Board of Trustees.

Bonan, who fills the vacancy created by former trustee and current SIUC Interim Chancellor Samuel Goldman, holds a bachelor’s degree from SIUC, an MBA and advanced banking training.

"Southern Illinois University's continued success is important, not only to the faculty, staff and students that keep this University strong, but also to the overall economic prospects of this region," Bonan stated. "I appreciate the Governor's confidence in me and look forward to making whatever contribution I can to ensure that this University continues to thrive."

Bonan is actively involved in many business and community endeavors including serving as chair of the Friends of Society Advisory Board; serving on the United Way Board; and the board of Guardian Center, a sexual abuse victim's advocacy group. He is a member of the Southern Illinois Community Foundation, as well as a member of Rotary, Lions, Elks and Kiwanis clubs in several southern Illinois communities. In 2007 he was honored as Saline County Citizen of the Year and also was selected as a "Leader Among Us" by the Southern Business Journal. He is director of Market Street Bancshares, Inc., the holding company for Peoples National Bank, N.A.

"I am delighted to hear the news that Bill Bonan II will be joining the Board of Trustees," SIU Board Chair Roger Tedrick said. "Bill's civic involvement, his dedication and loyalty to his alma mater, and his strong desire to help move this institution forward make him an excellent choice to serve on the Southern Illinois University Board."
