by Pete Rosenbery

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- An all-majors job fair at Southern Illinois University Carbondale next month will offer students, alumni and interested community members a first-hand look at job opportunities locally and around the country.

The event is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 1, in the Student Center Ballrooms. The job fair will feature representatives from an expected 80 employers from throughout the United States.

Registration is not necessary and admission is free.

The job fair generally attracts about 1,000 students, and offers an excellent networking opportunity with potential employers, said Jaime Conley-Holt, a career services specialist with SIUC Career Services. Full-time and internship opportunities are available, and networking is the No. 1 way to find a job, she said.

Job seekers should bring multiple copies of their resume and any other pertinent credentials, and should dress professionally and appropriately. Job fair participants include Archer Daniels Midland IT Department, The Boeing Co., Caterpillar, Inc., Computer Services, Inc., Cummins, Inc., Eli Lilly and Co., Jasper Engines and Transmissions, Northrop Grumman, SchoolCenter, Toyota Motor Sales, military recruiters and numerous federal government and Illinois state agencies, including the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and U.S. Secret Service.

A list of job fair participants, which is updated daily as employers register, is available at: http://www.siu.edu/~ucs/events/fairschedule.htm
