Pumpkin field day set for Sept. 11

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- University researchers and extension specialists will talk about pumpkin production in general and ongoing field research in particular at a free field day Thursday, Sept. 11, hosted by Southern Illinois University Carbondale at its Belleville Research Center. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., tours and talks start at 10 a.m. A free lunch follows at 12:30 p.m.

Growers can find out how different varieties stack up, learn about using no-till and cover crops in producing pumpkins, pick up some tips on pollination, pest management and disease control and get a little information about managing the fruit after harvest.
