Voters speak their minds, choose name for Web site

by Tom Woolf

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- It wasn't even close.

As you can see from the new masthead, "The Saluki Times" easily outdistanced three other choices to become the name of Southern Illinois University Carbondale's Web site previously known as Spotlight.

In the April 30 news release announcing the launch of the new news Web site, members of the campus community were invited to vote on a new name. The other choices were: The Clocktower, Saluki Scroll and SIUChronicle.

In all, 185 votes were cast. Here's the breakdown:

• The Saluki Times, 95 votes, or 51.4 percent.

• The Clocktower, 40 votes, 21.6 percent.

• Saluki Scroll, 28 votes, 15.1 percent.

• SIUChronicle, 22 votes, 11.9 percent.
