Mass communication dean finalists to visit campus

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Presentations and open forums with the two remaining finalists for dean of the College of Mass Communication and Media Arts at Southern Illinois University Carbondale are scheduled.

Douglas A. Ferguson, director of the Department of Communication's graduate program at the College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C., is visiting SIUC on Thursday and Friday, April 24-25. His presentation and open forum for the campus community and general public will take place from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m., Thursday, April 24, in the Communications Building, room 1116.

Maria R. Marron, professor and chair of the Department of Journalism, Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Mich., is visiting the campus on Monday and Tuesday, April 28-29. Her presentation and open forum will take place from 3 to 3:45 p.m., Monday, April 28, in the Kleinau Theatre.

Both candidates will speak on "Challenges and Opportunities Facing Mass Communication and Media Arts at SIUC."

The third finalist, Gary P. Kolb, interim dean of SIUC's College of Mass Communication and Media Arts, interviewed for the post on Monday and Tuesday, April 21 and 22.

The college offers undergraduate and graduates degrees from the departments of Cinema & Photography and Radio-Television and the School of Journalism. The college also is home to the Broadcasting Service and Global Media Research Center.
