Secretary of State's mobile unit coming to campus

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois University Carbondale students, faculty and staff can avail themselves of numerous services on Thursday, Oct. 18, that they would normally need to go to an office of Secretary of State Jesse White to obtain.

White's office will offer driver's license or state identification renewal, license plate sticker purchases, registration to be an organ and tissue donor and other services from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. in the Kaskaskia Room on the second floor of the SIUC Student Center.

Secretary of State employees will renew, replace or correct driver's licenses and identification cards, sell vehicle registration renewal stickers for license plates, including SIUC specialty plates, passenger car and B-truck plates and also handle vehicle title registrations and provide parking placards to those with disabilities.

Payment by personal checks or cash is acceptable. The mobile unit can't handle processing credit or debit cards. New or duplicate driver's licenses and identification cards require presenting proper identification. For the complete list of acceptable forms of identification look online at www.CyberDriveIllinois.com.

"This partnership between the Secretary of State's office and Southern Illinois University is a great example of how my office can work with public and private institutions to make these transactions more convenient," White said.

The Secretary of State mobile unit will again offer the same services on the SIUC campus in the Student Center's Illinois Room from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Nov. 15 as well Jan. 17, March 20 and April 17 in 2008.
