CARBONDALE, Ill. — Gary L. Minish, dean of Southern Illinois University Carbondale's College of Agricultural Sciences, will serve as president of the American Association of State Colleges of Agriculture and Renewable Resources over the coming year. His election took place Oct. 2 during the group's annual meeting in Fort Hays, Kan.

Minish also will continue to serve as association representative to the National Association of State University and Land Grant Colleges, a position he has held since 2005.

The 34-year-old association, known by its acronym, AASCARR, consists of representatives from 46 colleges and universities with academic programs in agriculture and renewable resources outside the land-grant system.

Minish, SIUC's agriculture dean since 2004, previously served in a variety of capacities, from scientist to teacher to administrator, during a 35-year career at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Va. He earned his bachelor's degree in animal science in 1962 from Iowa State University and his doctorate in animal science in 1966 from Michigan State University.
