SIUC to host open house on Oct. 8

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Prospective Southern Illinois University Carbondale students who attend an SIUC open house on Oct. 8 can learn how to become a Saluki, how to manage the expenses being a Saluki entails, and what to do once they are Salukis.

The open house, one of several held throughout the year, gives high school and transfer students a chance to learn about the University with campus tours, information tables and seminars on everything from admission procedures to financial aid options to housing opportunities to the lowdown on college and departmental requirements and offerings.

Specialized seminars address specific needs for students transferring from community colleges or other institutions, for students who are early in their higher education selection process and for students who are considered "high potential."

This open house has the Student Recreation Center as home base. Check-in begins at 7:45 a.m. and welcoming activities commence at 9 a.m. Pre-registration is not required, but does help with planning. Open house coordinators estimate approximately 400 students will attend the October open house event, with an overall attendance of about 1,000 people.

To pre-register online, log onto the site at www.admissions.siu.edu, where potential students and their families can also access other useful information. The Undergraduate Admissions office is available for further information as well at 618/536-4405.

Future open house dates this academic year are set for Nov. 3, Feb. 18, March 29 and July 18.
