'Moonlight Canoeing' available at campus lake

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois University Carbondale's Recreational Sports and Services is presenting three nights of "Moonlight Canoeing," open to the general public.

Anyone with valid photo identification can enjoy a free ride in a paddleboat or canoe from 8 to 10 p.m. on Aug. 28, Sept. 26 and Oct. 26. Located at the Lake-on-the-Campus Boat Dock, each water vessel holds two-four people.

Organizers accept no reservations as they loan the canoes and paddleboats on a first-come, first-served basis. Moonlight canoeing is traditionally quite popular, drawing up to 70 or more participants during summer months and 120 each night during the school year.
