Music festival brings concert to Anna June 19

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Southern Illinois Music Festival, sponsored by Southern Illinois University Carbondale, brings a free jazz concert for children to Anna this year.

The Anna performance is at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, in the auditorium of the historic Stinson Memorial Library, located at 409 S. Main St. There is no admission charge. All community members are welcome.

The Jive with Jazz concert is designed for families with children ages 0 to 8 years old. Edward Benyas, SIUC music professor, conductor of the Chicago Chamber Orchestra and the festival's founder and artistic director, said musical education is an important component of the festival. Bringing music into the communities surrounding SIUC gives area residents a chance to experience classical and jazz music without traveling very far.

More information and a complete schedule of all events are available at www.SIFest.com or by calling 618-53-MUSIC or 618/453-2776.
