School of Music awards scholarships

CARBONDALE, Ill. — The College of Liberal Arts at Southern Illinois University Carbondale recently honored students in the School of Music.

Jered Montgomery of Mulkeytown won the Presser Scholarship. The $4,500 award, which goes to a junior majoring in music, is through the Theodore Presser Foundation in Haverford, Pa. SIUC is a member of the foundation. Montgomery, who has the title of Presser Scholar for the next year, plays trumpet.

The School of Music offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Students can specialize in music business, composition and theory, education, opera and music theater or performance.
