Final Liberal Arts dean candidate visits this week

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Arved M. Larsen, one of three finalists for dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, visits campus this week.

Larsen will deliver his perception of “Educational Challenges for Liberal Arts in the 21st Century” during an open forum set for 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at the University Museum Auditorium in Faner Hall.

He will also meet with University officials, support staff and department directors and chairs in the college. His visit concludes on Wednesday.

Larsen is the last prospective dean to visit campus. Dorothy W. K. Ige visited campus in April. Internal candidate Interim Dean Alan C. Vaux was also formally interviewed in April. Candidate George Arasimowicz announced last month that he would pursue an opportunity at a different university. He did not visit campus. The new dean will replace Shirley Clay Scott.
