Free Jazz Combo Concert set for April 18

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Calling all cool cats and jazz lovers – the Southern Illinois University Carbondale School of Music will host a free Jazz Combo Concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at the Old Baptist Foundation Recital Hall.

The formal concert showcases a semester's worth of intense jazz music study that emphasizes improvisational skills. Professor Phillip Brown, who plays bass this semester with the combo, teaches the course.

The program includes music by Miles Davis, John Coltraine, Chick Corea, Bronislau Kaper and Ned Washington, Joey Calderazzo and Jermain Bollinger.

Musicians for the jazz combo are students Shadi Frick on tenor saxophone, Bill Shotton on piano, Jermain Bollinger on drums and Brown on bass.

The School of Music is part of the College of Liberal Arts at SIUC.
