Seminar set on drug testing in professional sports

by Pete Rosenbery

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale next week will host a seminar on drug testing in professional sports.

The seminar is at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 25, in the SIU School of Law's Hiram H. Lesar Law Building auditorium. The event is free and the public is welcome to attend.

SIUC assistant athletics director and head trainer Edward B. Thompson — who is in charge of drug testing for SIUC athletics — will discuss drug-testing procedures. He will discuss what drugs and performance-enhancing agents athletes are tested for, and recent drug testing developments, said Andrew R. Roszak, a second-year law school student and president of the law school's Law and Medicine Society.

Law professor William A. Schroeder will discuss evidentiary issues and relevant case law, Roszak said.

Free pizza and beverages are available starting at 6:30 p.m.
