Summer enrollment remains steady

by Sue Davis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Summer enrollment at Southern Illinois University Carbondale stands at 9,646, about the same as last summer and what University administrators expected.

"Our total enrollment is up by 57 students compared to last summer, so numbers are steady as we thought they would be," said Larry H. Dietz, SIUC's vice chancellor for student affairs and enrollment management. "We continue to work diligently to provide quality services to our students, and to assist them in achieving their educational goals."

Figures show that of the 9,646, some 6,946 are enrolled on campus. In addition 2,700 students are enrolled off campus, primarily at military bases across the country.

SIUC has a rolling admissions policy and continues enrolling students for fall semester.

Becoming the best student-responsive public research university in the state is among the goals of Southern at 150: Building Excellence Through Commitment, the blueprint the University is following as it approaches its 150th anniversary in 2019.
