Media Advisory – Presidential Scholarship Golf Scramble

SIU President Glenn Poshard invites reporters, and photographers to cover the 2006 Presidential Scholarship Golf Scramble beginning at 11 a.m. Friday, May 19, at the outdoor pavilion next to the club house at Stone Creek Golf Club, south of Carbondale on U.S. Route 51. Proceeds from the scramble go to support Presidential Scholarships at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Reporters will have the opportunity to interview Poshard and presidential scholarship recipients beginning at 11 a.m. on Friday. A short program begins at noon; golfers should tee off by 12:30 p.m. SIU will hold the day's opening events at the pavilion rain or shine.

This year's scramble honors late SIU President James E. Walker. Mrs. Gwen Walker also plans to attend the event.

Presidential Scholarships, founded by President Walker, are the most prestigious scholarships that SIUC awards each year. The scholarships are the most comprehensive available from the University, and cover tuition, fees, room and board. Minimum eligibility requirements for the Presidential Scholarship are an ACT composite score of 29, a 3.75 grade-point average on a 4.0 (perfect) scale, leadership qualities and Illinois residency.
