Campus Safety Alert

Southern Illinois University Carbondale police are investigating an unlawful use of weapons offense that occurred at about 9:10 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 29, at the intersection of Park Street and Logan Drive.

A 20-year-old SIUC female student and her 16-year-old sister reported to police they were waiting at the intersection for a ride when they were approached by a male. The SIUC student told police she told the suspect she was waiting for her boyfriend after he whistled at her. The women said as they entered a waiting car the suspect raised his shirt and showed what they believe to be a handgun in his waistband. The victims told police the suspect did not take the weapon from his waistband, or directly threaten them. The women left in the car, and the suspect's whereabouts were unknown.

The victims described the suspect as a black male, between 15 and 25 years old, between 5 feet, 8 inches and 5 feet, 10 inches tall and medium weight. He was wearing dark blue baggy jeans and a blue sweatshirt hoody with white vertical letters from his shoulder to waist.

Anyone with information about the incident should call the SIUC Department of Public Safety at 618/453-3771 or the Crime Stopper Line at 618/549-COPS.
