CARBONDALE, Ill. -- If your child loves arts, crafts and make-believe, be sure to check into this fall's free Saturday afternoon workshops at University Museum at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Activities will appeal to those ages 7-14. The workshops meet from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on the Saturdays listed below. There is room for 15 participants in each session; for advance registration, call the museum at 618/453-5388. Group enrollments are welcome.

Here's the list of upcoming fun:

• Nov. 12: Museum Holiday Games, enjoy riddles, puzzles related to the museum.

• Dec. 3: Pioneer Holiday Toys, create toys just like those used by pioneer children.

Providing cultural outreach is among the goals of Southern at 150: Building Excellence Through Commitment, the long-range plan the University is following as it approaches its 150th Anniversary in 2019.
