Campus Safety Alert

Southern Illinois University Carbondale police are investigating an armed robbery/home invasion that occurred at about 3 p.m., Monday, Sept. 19, in Schneider Hall.

Two male SIUC students told police they were in a residence hall room when the suspect entered the room, identified himself as a police officer, and displayed a black handgun and a badge. The suspect ordered the two students, ages 19 and 21, into the bathroom and closed the door. The suspect then took the two students’ wallets and left the room.

The students remained in the bathroom for approximately 20 to 30 minutes until the 19-year-old student’s roommate came home and found them in the bathroom. Both students live in Schneider Hall.

The suspect is described as an African American male, approximately 25 years old, 6 feet, 1 inch tall, approximately 180 pounds with a thin build and dark skin tone. He was wearing a white polo-style shirt with a circular emblem on the left chest, black pants, black shoes and aviator-style sunglasses.
