CARBONDALE, Ill. — Alumni and friends of Southern Illinois University Carbondale are invited to attend the Perry County Scholarship Awards Banquet on Thursday, Sept. 15. Activities begin with a 6 p.m. social at Alongi's Restaurant in Du Quoin. Dinner follows at 6:30 p.m., with the program scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The Perry County Alumni Chapter of the SIU Alumni Association is hosting the event. John M. Dunn, SIUC provost and vice chancellor, will be the guest speaker. Dunn, one of Southern's chief administrators, is a Pinckneyville native.

The chapter will honor its 2005-06 scholarship recipients and the Alongi Legacy Scholarship recipient. This year's Perry County high school scholarship recipients are Holly Ellen Coleman of Du Quoin High School and Robert Rushing of Pinckneyville High School. Jessica Denton of Pinckneyville High School is this year's Alongi Legacy recipient.

The chapter will also honor Du Quoin natives Fred and Ann Huff for their longtime support of SIUC and the Perry County Alumni Chapter. Fred Huff spent 35 years with the Saluki athletics program. He recently authored "SALUKI SPORTS HISTORY … 100 Years of Facts & Highlights," which depicts SIUC's proud athletics tradition. Huff, a longtime sports information director at the University, and Ann, who assisted her husband at athletic events, were on hand for many of Southern's most memorable sports moments.
