Young Writers benefit reading set for Friday

by Paula Davenport

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Authors, literary students and writing instructors from around the region invite you to an upcoming benefit reading to raise money for teens to attend a summer writing workshop.

The Longbranch Coffeehouse (100 E. Jackson St.) in Carbondale will host the benefit, from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday, June 3.

Admission is free but the sponsors will welcome donations. The event is open to all.

Contributions will provide financial aid for qualifying youngsters to attend The Seventh Annual Young Writers Workshop, June 29-July 2 at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Young Writers T-shirts will be on sale. And there will be raffles for prize packages of gift certificates and books.

The SIUC English department sponsors the popular creative writing program, specifically geared to aspiring teen authors.
