Teacher career fair set for March 23

by Pete Rosenbery

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A teacher career fair at Southern Illinois University Carbondale on Wednesday, March 23, will give students, alumni and interested community members a first-hand look at job opportunities around the country.

The event, from 8 a.m. to noon in the Student Center Ballrooms, will feature representatives from more than 30 school districts. Registration is not necessary and admission is free.

Job seekers should bring multiple copies of their resumes and any other pertinent credentials, and should dress appropriately.

The school districts attending will be looking to fill positions for the upcoming academic year, said Michelle Garrett, an SIUC career services specialist. Openings are at the elementary and secondary grade levels, in special education, and for school counselors and social workers. Some special education districts are looking for speech language pathologists and occupational therapy assistants, she said.

School district representatives from throughout Illinois will be on hand along with representatives from school districts in Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky and Maryland.
