by Paula M. Davenport

CARBONDALE, Ill. - - There's a new dog coming to the Southern Illinois University Carbondale campus and he will make his debut at a holiday open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, at the University Museum.Admission is free. Everyone is welcome.

Look for the dog in the museum's gift shop. He's a limited edition custom cookie cutter shaped like a Saluki, the famed University mascot. Individual cookie cutters will be available for $6 apiece. Proceeds will benefit the museum. Free cookie recipes come with each order.

Museum staff members will also box and ship cookie cutters to Saluki fans for $12 each.

But wait, kids, here's the best part: You may decorate your very own Saluki cookie to take home. Other kinds of cookies, punch and treats will be available as well.

Bob DeHoet, museum education coordinator, designed the cookie cutter. And Elenna Firm of Haxtun, Colo., brought the design to life in tin.

All merchandise in the museum's gift shop - - which prides itself on affordable wonders from around the world - - will be sold at 15 percent off, with the exception of the cookie cutters.

The museum is in the north wing of Faner Hall and just behind Shryock Auditorium.
