Theater faculty members winning recognition

by Paula M. Davenport

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Three faculty members of Southern Illinois University Carbondale's theater department are winning recognition for their respective skills.

A quick look at the recent accomplishments of each:

  • David A. Rush, associate professor and head of playwriting at SIUC, will take his play, "Germinous Seeds," to the Orlando Shakespeare UCF Festival of New Works in mid-January 2005. He will be among a mere 10 playwrights from across the country to have a staged reading of his play at the festival.
  • Kathryn Wagner, assistant professor of costume design, and Ronald A. Naversen, associate professor of scenic design and head of design and production in the theater department, will both be featured at the World Stage Design 2005, an international exhibition of scenic sets, costumes, lighting and sound design.

They'll join designers from around the globe who've submitted designs for dramas, musicals, operas, ballets, dances, circuses, films, television shows and other live media productions and performances. The exhibition will take place March 12-19 as part of the United States Institute for Theater Technology National Conference in Toronto.
