SIU Alumni Association accepting class ring orders

by Greg Scott

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Students and alumni of Southern Illinois University Carbondale are invited to acquire the only class ring officially recognized by the University.

Orders for The Official SIU Class Ring, designed to provide students and alumni with a symbol to forever commemorate their college experiences, will be taken from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, and Friday, Oct. 1, at the University Bookstore in the SIUC Student Center. Orders also will be taken at the SIU Alumni Association’s Pregame Homecoming Celebration on Saturday, Oct. 2, under the Alumni “Big Tent,” located east of McAndrew Stadium. A class ring representative will be available at the tent from 10:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
The SIU class ring was designed exclusively for those who meet the University’s academic standards. Only SIUC alumni and students who have earned at least junior status by completing 56 credit hours at the University are eligible to order rings.

Class rings will be presented to students each spring at a ceremony hosted by the University and the Alumni Association during Honors Day weekend. The next ceremony will be held Friday, April 1, 2005. SIUC Chancellor Walter V. Wendler will present the rings to each student who orders by Feb. 10, 2005.

Ring sales will help fund student and alumni programs coordinated by the SIU Alumni Association.
