Benefit archery event set for Sept. 11-12

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale will team up with TL's Archery and Archery International for a two-day indoor/outdoor archery event to benefit a wetland foundation, cancer research and juvenile diabetes.

"Shoot for a Cure," slated for Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 11-12, will take place at TL's Archery, 3002 Airport Road, Murphysboro, and at SIUC's Touch of Nature. TL's Archery, a retail outlet for archery and hunting supplies, and Archery International, a training facility, share the same building.

Some of the proceeds will go to benefit the Michael Wolff Memorial Wetland Foundation. Wolff, an avid outdoorsman from Makanda, died last April after a 10-month battle with cancer.

The schedule is:

Saturday, Sept. 11, TL's Archery
1-4 p.m. -- indoor shooting, youth shoot
6-9 p.m. -- adult shoot (20 yard, 300 round, NFAA rules)

Sunday, Sept. 12 Touch of Nature
9 a.m.-1 p.m. -- 3D shoot (30 targets, IBO rules)

There also will be additional distance shoots and games. Those who pre-register will be eligible for door prizes, drawings and complimentary gifts.

Registration is limited to 70 participants for indoor events and 120 for 3D. Fees are $20 per event for adults and $15 per event for kids 13 and younger.
