Sophomores and juniors from 10 area high schools will apply what they are learning in Southern Illinois University Carbondale classrooms in a model hovercraft race tomorrow -- Thursday, June 10. The students are participating in the College of Engineering's High School Outreach Program, which introduces them to the engineering field. They are conducting several hands-on projects related to the electrical, computer, mechanical, civil, environmental and mining engineering fields. On Thursday afternoon, students will build model hovercrafts in a lab, with racing set to begin around 3 p.m. They will meet in Room A208 of Engineering Building A before heading to the boat dock at Lake-on-the-Campus.
