CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A Southern Illinois University Carbondale instructor is next in line to lead the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics, or ICTM.

Members of the 1,800-member council recently elected Jackie L. Cox, an instructor in the SIUC College of Education and Human Services, to a three-year term beginning in fall.

During her tenure, Cox will move annually from president-elect to president and then past-president.

Cox has been active in the council for a number of years and has held numerous positions in the organization.

She received the group's Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching for four years running, 1991-1994.

In addition, she co-edited the ICTM Bulletin for six years and served for three years on the ICTM board as an expert on math issues affecting youngsters in early childhood through grade six.

She is a faculty member in the SIUC department of curriculum and instruction.
