Basketball camps feature Saluki players, coaches

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Boys who love basketball may improve their games with the help of coaches and players from the record-setting Saluki men's team at summer camps coming to Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Most sessions will use the SIU Arena and some will also use courts in the SIUC Student Recreation Center.

Camps are designed for every age group and skill level.

Details on each session:

  • Boys Basketball Camp I: Offensive Skills, June 4-5
    Grades 6-12 

    This camp is designed to focus on improving offensive skills such as passing, ball handling and shooting. Commuter: $125; Resident: $160

  • Boys Basketball Camp II: Father-Child Camp, June 12
    Grades 1-7 

    This camp presents fathers and their children with the opportunity to learn the game of basketball together. 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m., $75.

  • Boys Basketball Camp III: Junior High Team Camp, June 16-18 
    Any junior high team is eligible to participate. Area teams will compete in league play with a camp championship. Commuter: $180; Resident: $195

  • Boys Basketball Camp IV: Day Camp, June 21-24
    Grades 3-8 

    This camp emphasizes offense skills development in addition to team play, contests and fun. Basic fundamentals of shooting, ball handling and passing are also stressed. 9 a.m.-4 p.m., $125.

  • Boys Basketball Camp V: High School Tournament, June 26-27 
    This tournament is for high school junior varsity and varsity teams. Contact SIUC basketball coaching staff at 618/453-4667 for more information.

  • Boys Basketball VI: Junior Saluki Camp I, June 28-30
    Kindergarten-1st Grades 
    Basic fundamentals of basketball in a fun and positive environment. 8:30-10 a.m., $50.

  • Boys Basketball VII: Junior Saluki Camp II, June 28-30 
    Grades 2-3 

    Basic fundamentals of basketball in a fun and positive environment. 10:30 a.m.-noon. $50.

  • Boys Basketball Camp VIII: Half-Day Camp, July 26-29
    Grades 3-8 

    This camp emphasizes offense skills development in addition to team play, contests and fun. Basic fundamentals of shooting, ball handling and passing are also stressed. 9 a.m.-noon, $65.
